What’s the connection between snowflakes and diversity? Simply stated, each snowflake, like us, is different yet uniquely beautiful. In our relationships, we should acknowledge our differences and the value that we bring to each other. I think that it’s our differences that make us stronger. We need to embrace our differences and make our talents available to others.

Let me share a little about me. Finance and investments are not among my natural strong suits, but I have a couple of friends who love these topics and excel in the world of financial data. So, they are my go-to women when I don’t understand a financial topic. They patiently explain in layperson’s terms what I should know in order to make a solid decision. One will even diagram a concept for me since she knows I’m a visual learner.

On the other hand (or snowflake)–reading people and situations, writing, the world of color, and making “pretties” are right up my alley. So, I happily make my ideas and services available to my bow-challenged friends. We happily trade stocks and bonds ideas by reading people’s cues.

The key to our trade-offs is that we make them in a loving and non-judgmental arena. My friends don’t think any less of me because I don’t enjoy reading financial reports. And I don’t see them as deficient because they want to bolt into a situation without understanding what’s not being said by the other person. I call it give-and-take and filling in our strength gaps.

Don’t be put off by someone because they have different traits than yours. Instead, discover each other’s strengths and try to forge a strong friendship chain. Also, keep in mind that a beautiful blanket of snow can make even the most dismal environments look like a winter wonderland. So with each other. Our blankets of friendships help us make it through our lives’ dismal and cold periods.

My days in the next few weeks will be a little hectic, so I may have to neglect my blogs–can’t do everything, right? But I will share a Christmas thought, here-and-there with you. I hope you enjoyed this week’s Christmas card and its sentiment about diversity.
